Byun Baek Hyun is a South Korean singer, songwriter, model, actor, and creative director. He was a member of his school band and has attended several musical festivals, later winning an award at a local rock festival. He was street cast by SM Entertainment in 2011. Baekhyun was one of the last members to join EXO. He has been in the subunit called EXO-CBX since 2016, along with his members Xiumin and Chen. In May 2018, Baekhyun collaborated with Privé and launched his own streetwear brand, Privé, by BBH, later becoming the co-creative director of the brand. Byun debuted as a soloist on July 10, 2019, with the release of his first extended play titled "City Lights" and its lead single "UN Village”, becoming the third EXO member to have debuted as a solo singer. In October 2019, Byun debuted as a member of SuperM and became the leader of the group. Super M debuted with their self-titled EP on October 4, 2019. Byun enlisted for his mandatory military on May 6, 2021. Having been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, he is serving as a public service worker instead of an active-duty soldier. Byun was discharged on February 5, 2023. On June 1, 2023, EXO’s Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen notified SM Entertainment regarding the termination of their exclusive contracts. On January 8, 2024, it was announced that Baekhyun’s independent label, I&B 100, would manage the individual activities of Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen as well as their unit activities as EXO-CBX, while SM Entertainment would manage their group activities as EXO.
