Jeon Woo Joo is a South Korean actress, voice actor and former teacher. She graduated from Deokseong Girls' High School and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Korean Language and Literature from Sookmyung Women's University. She made her debut in 1960 as part of the 5th open recruitment for voice actor by CBS. Her family was well off and did a lot ginseng farming but during the Japanese occupation they lived as refugees and even moved to the United States when she was 6 years old. After she returned home in 1948, she faced discrimination at school because she was not able to finish elementary school. However, she managed to study hard and completed her education and even went to college in a time where women were not widely accepted in universities. After graduating she became a teacher but always wanted to act so, in 1960, she joined CBS and in 1963 she joined DBS 1st open recruitment (due to network consolidation, she was re-classified as part of the 6th open recruitment for KBS in 1980). At the time, TV was not popular so voice actors for radio dramas were always on-demand. In 1972, she became an actress as TV started to gain popularity but was often cast as a housewife or the main character's mother. In the mid-1990s, she joined a comedy program and became popular for her boisterous laugh and straightforward comments. She is now semi-retired but has appeared in an episode of "King of Mask Singer", where she moved on to Round 2, becoming the oldest contestant ever to advance and she also had a guest role in "Young Lady and Gentleman". She also appears on liberal arts programs talking about how frugal she is in her life. (Source: Korean = NamuWiki || Translation = MyDramaList).
