Sugiyama Tokuko was a Japanese actress born in Tokyo. She graduated from Jissen Girls' School and initially worked as a nursery school teacher and in the advertising department at Chiba Shimbun. In 1946, she joined Toho's New Face program and trained at the Academy of Stage Arts. She became a member of the Haiyuza Theatre Company in 1948 and made her stage debut that year in "Toku e no Hoko". Sugiyama made her film debut in 1949 with "Shiratori wa Kanashikarazuyawa". In 1992, she moved to a nursing home in Saitama Prefecture but continued to record until her retirement in 2005. Sugiyama Tokuko passed away from liver cancer on August 28, 2014, at the age of 88.
