Uhm Ji Won made her acting debut in the late 1990s. For the 2006 film "Traces of Love" (가을로), she won Best Supporting Actress at the Chunsa Film Art Awards for her performance as a survivor of the 1995 Sampoong Department Store collapse. For her performance in "Hope" (소원), Ji Won won Best Actress at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards. This was followed by period mystery-thriller The Silenced, and fantasy thriller The Phone. A few years later, she won Best Actress at the Women in Film Korea Awards for her perfomance in "Missing" (미씽: 사라진 여자). In May 2019, Uhm signed with a new agency, C-JeS (씨제스).
