Lin Chi Ling is a Taiwanese model, host, actress, and singer born in Taipei, Taiwan. Her family is originally from Beikang District in Tainan. She attended Dongmen Elementary School and did not finish Zhongzheng Junior High School. At 15, she began her modeling career after being discovered by scout Lin Jian Huan. She later pursued her education in Canada, attending Strachan Memorial School in Toronto for high school and earning a double major in Western Art History and Economics from the University of Toronto. After graduating in 1997, Lin Chi Ling returned to Taiwan with plans to work at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. She was not hired due to not having a master's degree and briefly worked in arts administration at the Fubon Art Foundation. In 2000, Lin Chi Ling moved to Japan for three months to study and appeared in print advertisements. Upon returning to Taiwan, she signed with Catwalk Model Agency as a full-time model. In 2001, she also taught performance training at Huagang Arts School and served as the Asia-Pacific spokesperson for Clinique in 2001 and 2002. On July 8, 2005, Lin Chi Ling suffered a serious accident while filming an advertisement, resulting in seven fractured ribs, a bruised left lung, and pleural effusion. She recovered over several months and returned to the entertainment industry with a press conference on November 1, 2005. Her contract with Catwalk Model Agency ended in 2012, and in 2017, she established Lin Chi Ling Studio.
