She was a student at Tokyo Prefectural third higher girls' school (now Tokyo Metropolitan Komaba High School) in 1942 and joined NHK Tokyo Broadcasting System troupe after graduation. She played an active role as a voice actress in the radio drama "Kimi no Naha" in 1956. After that, she was been active in a wide range of movies, television, and the stage, including appearing in Akira Kurosawa's films such as "Red Beard" and " Dream". She joined in 1976 the troupe Bungakuza. She is the model of Eiko Nakano who appears in the movie "Tot Channel" (1987) by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi set in the early days of television. In 1952, she received the 7th Arts Festival Encouragement Award in the radio drama "Clock". In 1993, she won the Japanese Film Critics Award for encouragement for the movie "Dying in a hospital". She also has one voice acting credit in "Aladdin" and the "Wonderful Lamp" movie as Aladdin's mother. She died at a hospital in Ota-ku, Tokyo at 0:44 pm on July 2, 2006, due to pulmonary infarction.
