Shimojo Masami was a Japanese actor born in Busan, South Korea, to parents from Iki, Nagasaki, Japan. He graduated from Busan First Commercial School and lived in Busan until age 20 before moving to Tokyo to pursue a career as a film director. In 1936, he joined the Shinkyo Theatre Company and debuted on stage in "Tenyumaru." After World War II, Shimojo was involved in founding the Second Shinkyo Theatre Company. In 1951, he joined the Mingei Theatre Company, appearing in numerous stage productions. He became a freelancer in 1971 following internal conflicts within the company. Shimojo was married to former actress Tagami Yoshiko, and their son is actor Shimojo Atom. He passed away from pancreatic cancer at his home in Tokyo on July 25, 2004, at the age of 88.
