Anucha Boonyawatana, nicknamed Nuchy, is a Thai independent film director and co-founder of G Motif, one of the largest video production companies in Thailand. She was born in Nakhon Phanom, an Isan Province of Thailand. As of November 15, 2020, she is the 8th president of the Thai Film Director Association. As a trans woman, Anucha Boonyawatana’s films focus on issues of gender and sexuality in Thai society. Her thesis film "Down the River," a composition of Buddhist philosophy, Thai art, and gay love won the "Young Thai Artist Award." After years of awaiting her opportunity, Anucha received funding to make a short version of "The Blue Hour". With some additional support from her production company, G Village, she was finally able to make a feature-length film. The final product was released both as a feature film and cut for broadcast as the thirteenth episode of "ThirTEEN Terrors" (2014). The film, released in 2015, acquired awards from Fantasia International Film Festival and FEST International Film Festival. In 2017, Anucha's second feature film, "Malila: The Farewell Flower" premiered at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The film won the BIFF Kim Jiseok Award. She later won the "Silver Screen Award" for Best Director at SGIFF, the "Silver Pheasant Award" for Best Director at the International Film Festival of Kerala and an Artistic Achievement award from LA Outfest. Malila was selected as the Thai entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards..
