Zhang Jia Rui, born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is a Chinese director, screenwriter, producer, member of China Film Association, member of China Film Directors Association and cultural consultant of Yunnan Province. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy of Sichuan University and the Directing Specialist Program of Beijing Film Academy. At aged 16, Zhang contributed a script to the county drama troupe, which was later adopted. In 1988, he received the job of first deputy director, and worked with director Han Xiaofei to shoot the suspenseful film "Super Thief". His career as a director began in 1991 with his first TV series "Sun Dove" which won the special award of 1992 Feitian Award. In 2002, he directed the first film of the Yunnan Trilogy "When Ruoma was Seventeen" which won the 10th Huabiao Awards for Outstanding Film in 2003, and the Gold Award for Best Picture at the French Carp Touring Film Festival and the 20th finalist of the main competition unit of the 7th Montreal International Film Festival. In 2004, he directed the second part of the Yunnan Trilogy "Huayao Bride in Shangri La", and won the 11th Huabiao Awards for Outstanding Film Award, Outstanding Director Award and Outstanding Newcomer Award. His 2006 "The Road" was awarded the Golden Pyramid Award in the main competition unit of the 30th Cairo International Film Festival. His 2009 "Red River" won the Best Picture Award at the 3rd Seoul Chungmuro International Film Festival, and the Best Director Award at the 16th Beijing University Student Film Festival. His 2010 "Lost City" won the Best Director Award at the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival and the 17th Beijing University Student Film Festival Jury Award. Between 2019 and 2021, his representative works namely "White Wedding", "Calling Through Time and Space", "Southbound Nine Songs" and "Red Sun Pavilion" also won several awards..
